National Catholic AIDS Network Appoints New Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the National Catholic AIDS Network is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Daniel T. Lunney as Executive Director of the Network.

Dan already has served the Network in various capacities, including web editor, annual conference staff, and Interim Executive Director. Dan brings with him excellent training in Pastoral Ministry and Peace and Social Justice Studies. During his undergraduate studies at St. Norbert College (DePere, WI), Dan served as an intern for NETWORK Catholic Social Justice Lobby Organization (Washington, DC) and World Mission Services of the Green Bay Catholic Diocese. He is a board certified chaplain through the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Dan has a Masters in Theological Studies with a focus on pastoral ministry from St. Norbert College and a Certificate in Graduate Studies in Healthcare Ethics from Rush University (Chicago). His work experience includes that of Chaplain at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Hospice of West Suburban Health Care (Oak Park, Illinois), and AIDS Pastoral Care Network (Chicago).

In addition to his professional credentials, Dan brings a deep faith, pastoral sensitivity to those in need, and a strong commitment to change the structures that cause stigma and discrimination toward those living with HIV and AIDS.

Outside of work, Dan enjoys attending plays, the symphony, dance and other cultural events in Chicago. He enjoys visiting his 8 nieces and nephews and returning to his hometown of Green Bay, Wisconsin to visit his parents. Dan is the fourth of six children of James and Mickey Lunney. Dan also enjoys travelling to destinations around the world. Dan is a member of St. Clement Parish in Chicago.

In making this announcement, Fr. Robert J. Vitillo, President of the Board of Directors of the National Catholic AIDS Network said, "We are very pleased that Dan Lunney has been appointed as Executive Director. His dedicated service to the Network has been of finest quality. He possesses the organizational and pastoral skills to maintain and even expand the excellent services already provided to the Network to those engaged in HIV and AIDS ministry and to the leaders of the Church in order to promote an effective and caring response to the pandemic"

Dan was preceded in this position by Rev. Rodney DeMartini, founding Executive Director, who is a priest of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, California, and currently is pursuing a sabbatical period.
